Background information and treatment approach:

I am a clinical social worker offering individual psychotherapy to adults and adolescents. I received my BA from Swarthmore College and my Masters Degree from Smith College School for Social Work. Since then I have been providing individual, group, and family psychotherapy to clients. I have worked in clinics, schools, residential facilities and hospitals in Austin, Boston, and San Francisco. I have been in private practice in Austin since 2004.

I use a collaborative, psychodynamic approach to help clients experience relief from their symptoms. Through thoughtful conversation and reflection, we are able to better understand relationship patterns and life struggles. I am able to draw upon cognitive behavioral techniques and family systems theory to supplement my insight-oriented perspective as needed. I actively use the therapeutic relationship to help further the treatment.

The treatment may focus exclusively on immediate concerns or it may deepen into an exploration of longer-term patterns. I find that talking about important early relationships often sheds light on current day struggles.

Main areas of interest:

I consider myself a generalist and believe that we can use the therapeutic process and therapeutic relationship to address a wide range of issues. We focus both on core psychological patterns and particular presenting issues. However, some areas of interest and experience are:

* Life Transitions
* Relationship Issues
* Issues related to Identity
* Depression/Bipolar
* Anxiety/Stress
* Self-Esteem Issues
* Challenging Family Dynamics
* Struggles with Body Image/Unhealthy Eating Patterns
* Grief

My Style:

I provide an empathic and gentle environment within which to explore challenging issues. I believe that a nonjudgmental space creates freedom to look at vulnerabilities that may be hard to access otherwise. While at times I am quite interactive, I also believe in listening closely and quietly to allow room for unexpected thoughts and feelings to emerge.

Insurance:

I accept insurance from a number of carriers. Please contact me directly to see if I am currently accepting insurance from your carrier. In addition, you may be reimbursed for my services using your out-of-network benefits if I am not a provider with your insurance company.

Sliding Scale:

I have a limited number of sliding scale slots available for clients who are unable to afford therapy otherwise. Please call to discuss this option.
