I am Dr Elayne Lansford, a clinical psychologist in private practice here in Austin, Texas. I work primarily with people aged 16 and older, offering individual therapy, couples therapy, and behavioral medicine consultation. My Biography: I obtained my BA in psychology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1976, and my MA and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1982. From 1982-84, I was an adjunct professor and post doctoral fellow at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, and an adjunct professor at Trinity University. In 1984, I joined Austin Regional Clinic ( a multi-specialty medical clinic) and remained there until 1993, when I went into private practice. I have been an adjunct professor in clinical psychology at The University of Texas for the last 20 years, and a member of the San Francisco Psychotherapy Research Group, where I teach Control Mastery theory. My Main Areas of Interest and Expertise: I am a generalist and enjoy seeing a wide range of people. However, my main areas of expertise include: *Depression, bipolar disorders *Anxiety disorders *Couples therapy (an area of special enjoyment) *Relationship issues, including family issues *Grief and loss *Behavioral medicine: stress management, relaxation training, sleep disorders, mindfulness, coping with chronic illness, etc. My Style of Therapy: I have extensive training in psychoanalytic therapy, family systems theory, and behavioral medicine, enabling me to work with a good deal of flexibility, depending on the needs of my clients. I approach everyone as an individual rather than applying a general technique to all. My guiding theory posits that all people come to therapy with strong wishes (conscious or unconscious) to master their problems; it is my job to connect with my clients, listen with care, and jointly develop a plan to help them to overcome whatever obstacles they may encounter. My style is warm and interactive, rather on the humorous end of the continuum. I have practiced as a therapist for over 25 years, love my work, and consider it a pleasure and a privilege to consult with those of you who see me. Insurance Clients can be reimbursed for my services as an out-of-network provider for any insurance with a PPO option. Though I ask clients to pay me directly for my services, I will file with their insurances as a courtesy, if they wish. | ||
